A Non-Claustrophobic MRI
MRI scanners come in many different shapes and sizes. The scanner at Howard Open MRI Center is the “most open” open MRI in Howard County. The scanner is open on three sides; the head, one side and at the feet. No claustrophobic tunnels where patients feel trapped and alone. Our spacious scan room allows a parent, friend or other individual to sit alongside the patient during the scan. Many patients are relieved to be next to, or holding the hand of, a loved one during the procedure. Simply alert our patient coordinator during scheduling if you are nervous about the test and we can suggest ways to make the process more comfortable for you (including the possibility of sedation).

Our Radiologists
Some MRI sites use numerous radiologists or remote radiology services to interpret the patient’s images and create reports. At Howard Open MRI Center, we offer the expertise and continuity of two radiologists, Dr. Elizabeth Hartman and Dr. Abbott Huang. Dr. Hartman serves as the Chief Radiologist and Medical Director of Howard Open MRI Center and is the reading radiologist the majority of the time. Dr. Huang is the reading radiologist the remaining time. This unique company structure creates a personalized radiology experience for referring clinicians and patients. Dr. Hartman and Dr. Huang are board certified radiologists with extensive training in all types of imaging. Dr. Hartman’s Johns Hopkins MR Fellowship focused on neurological and musculoskeletal imaging. Dr. Huang has a sub-specialty in foot and ankle imaging.
